Ile Moorea

Just a few miles from Tahiti lies Tahiti's little sister the magic island of Moorea. The Baie d'Opunohu on the north side where we anchored for a few days is one of the most scenic and photographed bays in Polynesia. As most of the volcanic Islands Moorea is not short of spectacular peaks, valleys and strangely-shaped mountains.

Beautiful Baie D'Opunohu
Belvedere View Point

We hiked to the Belvedere View point where we had a spectacular panoramic view of both Cook's Bay on the right and Baie d'Opunohu on the left.

Cook's Bay
The Baie d'Opunohu a more pristine bay, where Captain Cook actually anchored in 1777, has beautiful beaches and several small coves where smaller vessels can anchor and tie a bow line to a palm tree. It's truly represents the sailor's idea of French Polynesia.

Beautiful Island flowers

These beautiful island flowers grow all over the islands and we found these along the five km hike to the Belvedere view point. I couldn't resist taking some back with me to admire for a few more days. They lasted the trip to Huahine and some of them are still beautiful after 10 days.

The waters of Polynesia are ideal to discover an extra ordinary marine life. The water temperature is very pleasant, its crystal clear quality and colors make it a treasure to swim in. Snorkeling is perfect to encounter the very gentle stingrays, black tip sharks and many other fish species. We took the opportunity to feed the stingrays and swim with them. What a thrill.
